One-year Advanced Diploma Program in Geographic Information Systems

Program description on main NSCC site »
What is Geographic Information Systems (GIS)?

Environmental sciences, retail sales, land-use planning, governments, natural resources, vehicle routing: what have these subjects got in common? These spatial disciplines are each tied to geography.

First Mountain Bike Trip on 9 September 2006. Here is a Google Earth view of the annual bike trip. You may need to right-click to save the file.

Geospatial information link locational (that is, where things are) and descriptive (data associated with each location) information. We use points (i.e. utility poles, mine sights, etc.), lines (i.e. river centrelines) or polygons (i.e. land parcels, counties) to model reality. The technology allows storage, analysis and presentation of information.
