Student Loan Notice

Schedule 1 Student Loans can be signed anytime after August 24. We will deduct tuition, student fees, health & dental insurance (unless you provide confirmation of a opt-out visit www.gallivan.ca for more information) and any other fees associated with your particular program (i.e. computer lease, exam fees, etc.).

Textbooks will not be ready for pick-up until mid-August. Textbooks can be deducted from your student loan and we will only do so if you are picking them up at the time your loan is signed.

Please note that you do not have to make a special trip to get your loan documents to us. You can drop them off at your nearest campus and they will forward them to us, or you can send them by mail to:

Program Cost Information

The Program Cost Information will give you the specific costs associated with your program and campus. It will also detail any specific supplies you may need to purchase for your studies for the year as well as start and end dates for your program.

Student Health and Dental Benefits Plan

NSCC students, both full time as well as those ALP students taking 3 or more units, will be enrolled in an NSCC Student Health and Dental Plan that provides extended medical and dental benefits. Here is some information about the plan.

NSCC Money Matters provides additional information about tuition, related student fees, the financial resources that may be available along with a budget worksheet which you can use to prepare for your studies at NSCC.

Notice of Withdrawal

A withdrawal form is provided in case of the unlikely event that you need to withdraw from the program before studies begin in September. NSCC needs to know if you are not planning on attending as many of our programs are full and your spot can be offered to another student on the waitlist. The notice of withdrawal should be sent to Admissions by fax at 491-3514 (Metro Area) or toll free fax 1-866-329-6722 or you can email Admissions at admissions@nscc.ca with your full name, program, campus and student number.

Preparing for your Academic Year

Academic Schedule

The 2009-2010 Academic Schedule will give you important date information that will assist you in planning vacation, study and work schedule for the next year. The schedule will also give you important key dates for program and course withdrawal and enrolment.

Recognizing Prior Learning (RPL) and Transfer Credit Process and Forms

NSCC recognizes that students come to us with previous training and experience.

For more information on what RPL is visit Recognizing Prior Learning.

To apply for transfer credit or RPL, you must complete the form, including a copy of your transcript, and course outline. This form can be dropped off at the campus. If you have specific questions about RPL, please contact the campus you are attending in the fall.

Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) and Workplace Hazardous Material Information Systems (WHMIS)

NSCC is committed to safety education and to helping Nova Scotians meet their safety training needs. SAFE 1000 and SAFE 1001 are generic courses that provide a basic introduction and lay the groundwork for any specific OH&S and WHMIS training. All students are required to complete this training by September 30th, 2009. This information sheet will overview the courses and give information how to access the online training now.

Places4students - Off Campus Housing

Places4students is a new online listing of available off-campus housing. You can find them at Places4students.com.

You can also try the three community newspapers, the Annapolis Valley Spectator, the Digby County Courier, and the King’s County Register. All three are available online (Requires registration, free trial available)
